The History of the "Oil Cabal" (part 4)

In part four (War and Oil) we get the story of World War II as told through oil.  it examines how a lack of oil slowed Japan's war machine,  how access to oil determined the strategy that Hitler used to broaden his empire and how oil ultimately determined victory or defeat for everyone involved in WWII.

The Power of Nightmares (Part III)

Adam Curtis has been working through his own brand of documentary films for years now. This is the first one I saw and it is still my personal favorite. He walks through the steps that would be called "Shadow Puppet Theatre" on No Agenda. His premise is that those in power have figured out that The Power of Nightmares is good for keeping us slaves in line. The more we're scared, the more we will seek leaders that PRESENT themselves as strong and powerful men (and it is usually men). The problem is, those in charge seem to have forgotten that they created the nightmares and are now acting as if the nightmares are all real.

The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear part III The Shadows in the Cave:
(From Wikipedia)
"The final episode addresses the actual rise of al-Qaeda. Curtis argues that, after their failed revolutions, bin Laden and Zawahiri had little or no popular support, let alone a serious complex organisation of terrorists, and were dependent upon independent operatives to carry out their new call for jihad. The film instead argues that in order to prosecute bin Laden in absentia for the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings, US prosecutors had to prove he was the head of a criminal organisation responsible for the bombings. They find a former associate of bin Laden, Jamal al-Fadl, and pay him to testify that bin Laden was the head of a massive terrorist organisation called "al-Qaeda". With the September 11th attacks, Neo-Conservatives in the new Republican government of George W. Bush use this created concept of an organisation to justify another crusade against a new evil enemy, leading to the launch of the War on Terrorism."

"After the American invasion of Afghanistan fails to uproot the alleged terrorist network, the Neo-Conservatives focus inwards, searching unsuccessfully for terrorist sleeper cells in America. They then extend the war on "terror" to a war against general perceived evils with the invasion of Iraq in 2003. The ideas and tactics also spread to the United Kingdom where Tony Blair uses the threat of terrorism to give him a new moral authority. The repercussions of the Neo-Conservative strategy are also explored with an investigation of indefinitely-detained terrorist suspects in Guantanamo Bay, many allegedly taken on the word of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance without actual investigation on the part of the United States military, and other forms of "preemption" against non-existent and unlikely threats made simply on the grounds that the parties involved could later become a threat. Curtis also makes a specific attempt to allay fears of a dirty bomb attack, and concludes by reassuring viewers that politicians will eventually have to concede that some threats are exaggerated and others altogether devoid of reality.  "In an age when all the grand ideas have lost credibility, fear of a phantom enemy is all the politicians have left to maintain their power."

Adam attempted to play the audio from the upcoming film Skyline, a film directed by two brothers who are known for doing special effects (i.e. great visuals with a cliched story).  Recently they moved into directing commercials (for clients that includ the Marines, Ford Motor Company and Coke), music videos and the film Aliens vs Predator: Requiem.

Even this lamest of films can still have an awesome poster campaign (yeah, those are people):

Burzynski: The Movie

Adam mentioned this documentary a few weeks back and I had a chance to watch the DVD this past weekend.  Fantastic!  I think the only way to see the film right now is to purchase the DVD (or catch a screening at a local festival).  Either way, it is well worth you time.  Here is the film website and the trailer:

Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of the American Empire

With the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 "incident" coming up it seemed appropriate to post something related for the film this week.  Loose Change and any of the Alex Jones documentaries all seemed to have a much more obvious agenda to them, so I decided to go with the 2004 documentary; Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of the American Empire.  It examines the Bush administrations reaction to the 9/11 "incidents" and how it was exploited to further an agenda.

Trains Good, Planes Bad: The Planes Fight Back

Here's a nice little attack on trains. I'm sure No Agenda listeners will crack up at the first image of this preview.  If it wasn't based on "true events" I wonder if anyone would find it believable at all?  Here is the report of what actually happened, it's worth a read as it in no way resembles this content of the trailer.
